Duplicate Serial Numbers: Colt manufactured 60,000 pistols in the Ithaca serial number range (804), 41,696 in the Remington Rand serial number range (900), and 4,171 in the US&S serial number range (10896). Ithaca and Remington Rands where not manufactured or shipped in numerical order. Im new to the board and this is my first post here. I've recently found a love for the 1911 style pistols and picked up a Remington Rand I believe. My Question is did RR make guns with out a NO or No before the serial number? I will list some of the marking on the gun maybe someone could help me out. Most of the pistols I see originating from the CMP are Colt, Ithaca or Remington Rand. The slide is clearly marked, or has a part number. How do you identify the frames? Font style of the serial number? NO vs No, with an underscore? M1911A1 vs M 1911 A1 stamping?

Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random. One needs to be sure that the barrel is original to the gun before trusting the Barrel Code listing, above. (*) On 8/9/99, stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. They resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01. Also http://oldguns.net/sn_php/remdates.php |
